Where can my child participate in Soccer Shots?

Soccer Shots Pittsburgh is held at childcare centers, preschools and schools (aka "private locations"), as well as public locations (parks, community centers, etc.). Our public programs are open to the general public while our private childcare center and school programs are only open to those enrolled at the facility.

What equipment will my child need to participate?

Soccer Shots Pittsburgh provides all of the equipment needed at each of our sessions. Your coach will provide all of the equipment needed at each of your child's sessions, including soccer balls. If a child prefers to bring their own personal soccer ball, they are welcome to do so. Soccer Shots size 3 soccer balls are also available for purchase on our website. Your child should wear activity-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes - tennis shoes are most common. In wet conditions, some children wear rain boots. Cleats & shin guards are optional. We strongly recommend that you bring a water bottle for your child. We recommend that those in the Premier program wear shin guards.

What can I expect from a Soccer Shots session?

Our weekly 30-40 minute sessions focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing and shooting. Through fun games and positive reinforcement, children will begin to experience the joy of playing soccer and being active. What expectations does Soccer Shots have about parental / guardian involvement at Soccer Shots sessions?

It is our objective to create a safe environment in which your child will experience soccer in a positive and non-competitive way. Parental involvement helps children feel comfortable in a new environment with new people. We welcome and request your involvement in helping your child(ren) to engage with us and to maintain a environment that is respectful of the coach and other Soccer Shots participants / families. The first few sessions of any season can be a bit of an adjustment period. Please keep this in mind and encourage your child to participate, even if you have to hold their hand or carry them through it. Parents / guardians are welcome to join their player on the field for just a portion or the entirety of the session. Below are Soccer Shots Pittsburgh's expectations regarding parental involvement at our sessions: MINI LEVEL: Active, on-field parental / guardian participation is required for this age group. This typically takes the form of a mommy / daddy-and-me class, with an parent or guardian guiding and aiding each child through our activities. We ask that only one parent / guardian actively participate on Soccer Island (our playing field) during our sessions. There is no limit to the number of spectators who are welcome to watch from the sidelines. CLASSIC LEVEL: Parental participation is encouraged when necessary for this age group to help keep the children on-track and engaged. Children may need re-direction so as to respect Soccer Shots equipment and others. We kindly ask that parents step in and actively become involved if a child is being disruptive and/or if discipline is required so that the coach can continue with the session and can maintain focus attention on the group. If a parent /guardian needs to come onto the field, please do so! PREMIER LEVEL: This age group often does not require parental participation, but parents are welcome on the field when / if needed. We do ask that parents become actively involved if a child requires it. If a child leaves the field, it is the responsibility of the parent to collect the child and to help them re-engage so as to not distract from the flow of the session for other players and families. We also request your assistance in helping your child(ren) respect their Soccer Shots coach and friends, and also in helping them to respect and preserve Soccer Shots equipment such as cones, goals, soccer balls, etc. Thank you! We kindly also ask that all attendees and players please respect the facilities and locations at which Soccer Shots is held.
